Marcelo Bielsa’s mind doesn’t work like a normal person’s mind.

The Argentine is quite simply one of a kind. There aren’t many managers who have stories about chasing fans with a grenade as well as being known as a gaffer who hands out sweets to children.

Aside from his enigmatic ways, it’s hard to deny that he’s a football genius.

Indeed, the Leeds boss has previously been hailed by Pep Guardiola as the best coach in the world, but he’s definitely got one thing wrong this week.

What’s been said then?

The Argentine was talking after his side’s 1-1 draw with Brentford on Tuesday night.

Phil Hay relayed Bielsa’s press conference comments in his Q&A session on The Athletic, and the Argentine claimed that his side were better against Forest than they were against the Bees.

“In both matches we played very well. In both matches we created few chances but against Nottingham Forest we had more continuity in attack than tonight,” he said.

Wide of the mark

These comments make you wonder what Bielsa was even watching?

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard him compliment his team despite the scoreline suggesting otherwise, as he’s previously said something similar about his thoughts at half-time against Millwall despite being 2-0 down, and in the end he proved to be correct on that one as Leeds won 3-2.

However, we can’t get on board with this view.

The Whites’ performance at the City Ground was one of their flattest of the season – they had just one shot on target and were beaten 2-0.

At Griffin Park, Leeds dominated proceedings, having three times as many shots on target as the hosts, and they were somewhat unlucky not to win after having 67 per cent of the ball.

Hopefully the Argentine is trying to mislead the journalists and the fans with these comments, as he shouldn’t be looking back on that Forest game with anything but disdain.

In other news, one Sky Sports pundit believes Leeds should be more like Fulham in one area.
